Planting your flower boxes, here are a few pointers

Recently, I put a request out to my facebook followers to help me decide what kind of flowers to plant in my flower boxes this year! I was looking for some inspiration and I got it! I had a great response and decided to plant #3 from the flowers pictured below…  Little did I know I was going to get a little bit of a flower education in the process!

The people at Petitti’s Garden Center were AMAZING! I walked in with my little picture all ready to buy my flowers.  So the first thing I learned was that my selection, while very pretty, was just not going to work in my shady flower boxes…Geraniums require full sun, OOPS!  So the very helpful gardening expert set out to find me the perfect replacement. Luckily, the store has all of their annuals sectioned off by Sun/Shade/Partial Shade etc.  That made my task a little bit easier. So we ended of looking through the huge assortment of flowers that are meant for shady areas and found some very pretty Ryder Begonias to replace the pink geraniums in my photo.  The garden expert proceeded to walk me though what kind of potting soil would work best, and hold more water etc.  This was a pretty important tip since I feel like during the hot summer months my flowers always get too dry. When all was said and done I think my flower boxes turned out quite well, Thanks Petitti’s for all the guidance! Let me know what you think!

Seasonal flowers in window boxes, pots, container gardens or hanging baskets make an eye-catching addition to any house. So if you are still deciding what to plant I highly recommend stopping by Petitti’s.
